Dear TIENS ICs!

I am very sad and deeply disappointed that TIENS has decided not to renew my contract. As of this posting therefore I am no longer associated with Tiens North America.
It has been a wonderful year meeting with so many of you in Canada and the United States. You all have a special place in my life as you welcomed me and worked so hard together to make your dreams at TIENS a reality.
I only hope that you will be successful since you each deserve it so much!
A special thanks goes to all the staff at TIENS in Markham and in Everett who also supported me in my efforts.

Conference Call PowerPoint

I wanted to let you know about an exciting development about our conference calls and the website. Last Conference Call we also offered the PowerPoint that Dr John Llaguno used for his training presentation live on the Internet.
Now that same PowerPoint - with an audio recording of Dr John's presentation - is available on the TIENS website under the What's New tab!
When you first open the PPT it will ask for your name a couple of times, but just ignore this and wait for Dr John to start.

Yesterday and today I have been attending a legal affairs conference hosted by the US Direct Selling Association. It was held in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside Washington, DC.
We heard from legal experts, legal advisors from other DSA companies, and representatives from the Federal Trade Commission [FTC].
We were able to review some of the issues affecting our industry, such as what kind of claims we can or cannot make about our products, how we can help understand the legitimacy of our business model, and what Federal and State regulations we have to comply with. These are issues I am quite familiar with and TIENS operates well within the regulations that affect us.
Today I am flying to New York, where I will be joining with our ICs in New York on Sunday.

Passing of Paul Theriault

It is with great sadness that I announce to you that Paul Theriault, Vice President of Tiens Group, passed away on Thursday night after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Paul has been a VP of TIENS for several years, responsible for much of TIENS expansion in Europe, Asia, North and South America. Prior to joining TIENS Paul was the President of the Direct Sellers Association of Canada.
It was at the DSA that I first met Paul and worked with him on the DSA Board of Directors. It was Paul that invited me to come to TIENS and help build the business in Canada and the USA.
Paul fought his challenge with cancer every step of the way with every avenue that he could, and always with a positive forward-looking approach.
He was very respected by President Li and the many at TIENS that new him.
He will be sadly missed.

I hope you have had a chance to read the first edition of our new monthly newsletter – the TIENS Connection! I am pleased that TIENS North America will have this new publication to communicate with you on the latest news, views, events, training, and recognition at TIENS.
Jennifer Zoller is our new Marketing & Communications Coordinator and the editor of our newsletter. She has done a terrific job putting this first edition together for you.
We will make this newsletter available to you in as many ways as we can – printed copies will go out in orders, they will be available in Markham and Everett at reception, an electronic copy will be on the website, and you can request more copies through Customer Service. This newsletter can be a great tool for you as well in introducing your prospects to the TIENS company, products, and opportunity.
Make sure you take a moment to read our feature called “What’s Your Story” which this month features Yelena Gubarik from Seattle. By the time you read this she will have come back from her all-expense paid trip to our Global TIENS Convention in Tianjin, China! I’m sure she will have so many amazing experiences to share with her family and her TIENS family when she gets back.
Let me share some thoughts on the great opportunity we have in associating with TIENS and being part of the Direct Selling Industry. We often talk about the opportunity to achieve financial freedom, to improve our health, and to share our achievements with others. But what is it that really makes the difference for everyone as they get involved in this business? Isn’t it the chance to make a difference – to make a difference in our personal lives, to make a difference in our families, to help others overcome health and financial challenges, and to experience the true rewards that come from doing something worthwhile.
Ultimately, health is wealth. If we can be healthy - physically, financially, emotionally, and spiritually – and help others do the same, true wealth will come to us, and in more ways than just financially. This is the true test of any worthwhile endeavour!

Product Safety

Many of you are aware of the melamine contamination of dairy products in China. As you can expect, the FDA in the US and the CFIA [Canadian Food Inspection Agency of Health Canada]in Canada are continously monitoring this situation in order to prevent any concerns with imported food.
We at TIENS are pleased to confirm that no TIENS products sold in North America contain any dairy products ingredients from China. All of our products that contain any milk or milk protein ingredients are sourced right here in Canada and are safe to use.

October seems to be a month that often reflects challenges in the economy and on the stock markets. I well remember Black Monday in October 1987 when we all thought we had seen a stock market crash like the one of 1929. It's true that it represented a large correction in the market, and housing prices were at their peak, only to go down or remain flat for the next few years. It was the year after I had started with Bank of America in the foreign exchange trading department. Despite the doom and gloom the next ten years saw growth and more prosperity than before.
Today the stock market reacted again to the global financial crisis with another major drop, and again we are witnessing economic challenges that will take some time to clear away.
But in all the last 15 years the Direct Selling industry has shown growth each year, and especially when times are more difficult. Direct Selling and TIENS still represent the best home-based low investment opportunity out there to supplement your income, something we all could use a little bit more of.
Now is the time to put extra effort into your TIENS business and share the business opportunity with others!

Jason Jennings: Thinking Big, Acting Small
On the first full day of the annual DSA Conference held in Phoenix, AZ, attendees gathered in the McArthur Ballroom and warmly welcomed the meeting’s first keynote speaker, Jason Jennings.

Direct Selling News recently spoke to Jennings about what he shared with the crowd and lessons the entire direct selling industry can learn from the companies he’s studied.

DSN: For our readers who were unable to attend this year’s Annual Meeting, can you recap the four leadership secrets you’ve discovered during your research?

JJ: First, the fastest, most productive and best performing companies and people on the planet have a cause. They don’t have a mission statement. They don’t have a vision statement. They have a cause. The cause is the reason why they do what they do. Point No. 2 is that all these great companies and people that we identified have mastered the art of letting go. One, you’ve got to let go of yesterday’s breadwinners. Two, you’ve got to let go of ego and you’ve got to let go of the same-old same-old. I think that applies to all of us. Third, Charles Koch (of Koch Industries) told me the challenge to any business is to get everybody to think and act like an owner. And I think in the direct selling industry, those 16 million people who are out there for Pampered Chef or Amway or AtHome America are probably thinking and acting like owners. But if you want everyone in the organization to think and act like an owner, you have to teach them how what they do creates economic value for an organization. Finally, truly great leaders see their role as stewards. They see themselves as stewards of people, stewards of customers, stewards of shareholders. They see their role as guiding, mentoring, nurturing, advancing the interests of everyone. Stewardship means making everything around you better.

DSN: How can the direct selling industry apply the leadership secrets you discovered in your research?

JJ: One of my guiding principles has always been that everyone has the obligation to maximize what they do to achieve their full potential in the interest of achieving economic freedom. And I guess that’s probably the reason I had such an affinity with this group, because the members of the Direct Selling Association actually provide the opportunity to achieve full economic potential to more than 16 million people just in America alone, which is pretty extraordinary.

DSN: Does the direct selling industry excel in any of the four discoveries you’ve discussed?

JJ:The direct selling industry comes very close on two of the points. I think that they probably come very close on having a cause. And second, I think the industry does a good job with the 16 million people who sell the different products in terms of getting them to think and act like owners, because each of those 16 million people is in business for themselves. They understand how what they do creates economic value, and they are paid accordingly.

Labor Day Weekend!

Hi everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed a very relaxing long weekend! Or was it a preparation weekend for the new school year? Hopefully you still got some rest and relaxation anyway.

My family spent some time in Collingwood, Ontario, about an hour and a half north of Toronto at a time share resort. It was a great family time for us, although not everyone was there all the time...I could only afford to spend one extra day besides the weekend.

Our favorite spot for a beach excursion is Sauble Beach - a 7 mile stretch of sand bordering on Lake Huron. The water is clear and clean, and the beach is sandy for several hundred feet from shore.

Then on Tuesday it was book to the office to begin working on our plans for the fall. First off several consultants from the US will join me in Tianjin China for our International Convention at the new Corporate Campus. Then I will meet with President Li and managers from around the world in our Executive Seminar.

Tomorrow I will host the SuperSaturday event in our Markham office, with Dr. John Laguno teaching us about the importance of calcium for our overall health.

Everett Event

I arrived in Everett on Tuesday and was met at the office by Natalya Vaulina, the great leader in this area. We did not know we were both going to be in the Everett area this week, but we arranged at the last minute to hold a meeting on Thursday night on my return from Vancouver. As you can see, it was so well attended with such short notice. We were able to recognize new 5, 6, and 7 stars, as well as awarding Yelena Gubarik with her certificate to attend the China Convention free of charge!

The group in Everett is very dynamic and is moving forward quickly! Our staff in Everett - Lisa Ni and Dean Ramirez - are doing their utmost to support the TIENS business in Everett and everywhere in the USA and so a big thank you to them for helping to put together this meeting on short notice.

Today I am in San Francisco and will meet with our consultants there this afternoon.

West Coast Trip

This has been a busy week and a half as I travelled to the west coast of the US and Canada. I began by flying to Sacramento to do SuperSaturday on August 16 with Gennadiy Kotlyarchuk, Natalya Vileshina, Anna Iosifova and their team. They have started up a good group there. It was my first time to Sacramento and that area of California a couple of hours east of San Francisco. Sacramento is the state capitol of California and Arnold Schwarzenegger is the governor, but he was nowhere to be found since he was recovering from knee surgery after injuring it during a work out. Pretty amazing at the age of 62, but it looks like even the Terminator has to be more careful now!
Sunday morning I drove to San Jose and held a SuperSunday for Irina Connick's group. There was a great turnout and excellent presentations by Dr Doug Desautels and other leaders.
I will post pictures as soon as they send them in.
My next post will tell you about the exciting new product announcement i have now made in Toronto, Sacramento, San Jose, Vancouver, and on the conference call!

Visit of Peter Ng

Late in June Mr. Peter Ng, Group Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Tiens Group, visited our North American Head Office in Markham. It was the first time he had been able to spend some time here.

We discussed many aspects of the TIENS business as well as the industry here.

Some of his remarks on the conference call were:

We will try to find the best ways to serve all of you. Other than the office in Everett we can consider other parts of the US.

Some of the products that are available in Eurasia, if you think they may be well received in your areas, let us know. If we can register these products in the US or Canada, we should try to bring them in. we will be introducing new products to North America and you will hear about these soon.

Even head office sometimes has hard time recognizing the names of products in different countries. If the formulation is the same, then the product is the same.

I also mentioned that we are currently working on a new company prospecting brochure, several new product tri-fold brochures, and new opportunity presentations.

Happy Birthday TIENS!

On August 3 we officially celebrate the 13th Anniversary of the Tiens Group! What a tremendous company Tiens has grown into in such a short time!

We celebrated this birthday in Toronto at our SuperSaturday on August 9th, with a training session and a large birthday cake!

I will see many of you in California later this month and we will celebrate there as well!

OK I realize that it has been too long since my last post on this blog, and I promise that I will keep it more current from here on in. It has been a busy July for me, including a trip to New York and Ottawa, Canada.

Both events were well attended and I enjoyed meeting with Zoya Geller in NY and her team as well as other TIENS ICs; also Dina Shkolnikov in Ottawa.

Portland Event

On Saturday June 28 Gennadiy Kotlyarchuk partnered with TIENS to host a SuperSaturday event at the City Centre Marriot in Portland Oregon. Althought it was probably a record hot day for that date in Portland, almost 40 prospects and consultants attended an amazing event.

Gennadiy and his team put on a great event in a professional way. Dr Huang from Seattle was our guest speaker and he related some interesting information about cordyceps, as well as speaking about his experiences in clinical practice about cardiovascular disease.

Congratulations to the Portland team for an excellent meeting!

July's Conference Call

Last night I hosted our July Conference Call and those that were on it heard of some exciting developments at TIENS North America in the near future.

On our last conference call Mr Peter Ng, Group Vice President of TIENS, shared some of his vision of the company and its future. Following up on his visit to our North American Head Office, Peter and I were able to discuss many important aspects of the business in this market.

I announced on the conference call that there are many new products in development in various TIENS markets around the world. This includes a new anti-oxidant juice product in North America to replace the Berry Essentials that we had in the past. The new juice beverage is part of the hottest product trend in the industry today - the functional beverage market. We are in the final formulation stages and I expect to launch this product sometime in the fall. When we do, it will be together with new marketing support material and sales tools. This product will revolutionize your TIENS business and open doors for you to recruit new leaders into your organizations.

As many of you have requested, we are working diligently on new marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, posters, etc, professionally produced to help you in your prospecting efforts. This is our main focus over the summer months.

I will be on the road again in July and August and hope to see many of you in Ottawa on July 16, in New York on July 20, in San Francisco on August 9, in Sacramento on August 16, and in San Jose on August 17.

TIENS Love Day

Every year, TIENS offices join in an effort to support children and orphans around the world. This year, the North American Head Office in Markham participated in a book drive for the United Way.

In an effort to support Tiens Love Day, the staff in North America has shown its support and willingness to assist children in need of literature by donating new books to the United Way.

On behalf of Tiens, the United Way will donate our books to the Yellow Brick House. The Yellow Brick House is a shelter that provides assistance to women and children who have experienced violence and abuse, by providing emergency shelter, counseling and education.

Tiens is pleased to note that through the staff’s generous book donations, the campaign to support and encourage a love of reading for children by providing them with books has been a success. By helping to put a book into a child’s hands, the North American staff has aided in making an impact on a child’s life.

DSA Conferences

I am now writing you from Phoenix Arizona where I am attending the Annual Conference of the US Direct Sellers Association. There are almost 1000 leaders, CEO's, Founders, Presidents, and General Managers in attendance, as well as numerous supplier companies that offer their services to the industry.

We had the opportunity to join with the President of the US DSA, Neil Offen, and the entire Board of Directors of the DSA in an opening reception Sunday evening. Speeches were given by the outgoing Chairman of the Board, Nathan Moore, Executive Vice Presidnet of Mary Kay, and the new Chairman, David Wentz, President of Usana.

On Monday we heard from Jason Jennings, a bestselling author, who described the 4 key characteristics of successful leaders and companies. At the evening reception I had the privilege of meeting Robert Kiyosaki and his wife Kim. As you know Robert is the originator of the Rich Dad Poor Dad education books and system which includes the Cash Flow Quadrant.

It has been exciting to be here as we join together again today with so many Direct Selling companies in sharing our success formulas.

Everyone I have talked to has been so impressed by the TIENS story, our reach across the globe, and a few have even had the opportunity to meet or work with President Li.

Welcome to the TIENS NORTH AMERICA blog

Dear TIENS Family:

Welcome to my new blog! I’m excited to begin this new way of communicating with you! Blogs have become an effective way to record and share current events, news, and happenings on the Internet, and I will be using this blog to share with you what has been happening at TIENS NORTH AMERICA, what we are planning, news about the company, comments about what is going on in our company or our industry, and even tips and training to help you with your TIENS business. I expect that I will share many things with you on this blog, so check in regularly to stay updated!

So let’s begin…

After traveling extensively in the first 4 months of this year, I have been mostly in the office for the month of May. This has allowed me to get a better handle on our operations and make some concrete action plans for the near future.

In June I will be on the road again. For the first week I will be attending the Annual Conference of the Direct Sellers Association of Canada in Charlottetown, PEI. In the second week of June I will be attending the Annual Conference of the Direct Sellers Association of the USA in Phoenix, Arizona. Both of these conferences will allow me to represent TIENS and to learn about the trends in the industry and what other companies are doing to be successful. I will report to you the highlights of these conferences on my Conference Call on Thursday June 12 as well as on this blog of course.

Later in June I will be in Seattle on the 25th and in Portland on the 28th to present at business meetings with consultants in those areas. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Earlier this week TIENS NORTH AMERICA made a special donation for the relief of earthquake victims in China. You can read the report below.

TIENS NORTH AMERICA RESPONDS WITH AID TO CHINA EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

On Monday, May 12, a powerful earthquake toppled buildings, schools and chemical plants in central China, immediately killing about 10,000 people and trapping untold numbers in mounds of concrete, steel and earth in the country's worst quake in three decades.

The 7.9-magnitude quake devastated a region of small cities and towns set amid steep hills north of Sichuan's provincial capital of Chengdu. Striking in midafternoon, it emptied office buildings across the country in Beijing and could be felt as far away as Vietnam.

On Tuesday, May 27, cabinet spokesman Guo Weimin told a press conference that "As of noon on May 27, the earthquake has caused 67,183 deaths, with another 20,790 missing". He said the confirmed number of injured from the May 12 earthquake in southwest China's Sichuan province stood at 361,822. About 14.38 million people have been relocated from quake-affected areas, according to the office. Hospitals have treated 83,527 injured people, of whom, 53,247 have been discharged, 17,168 still remain in hospital and 5,914 were transferred to other parts of China for treatment. As of Sunday, May 25, disaster relief workers had relocated 666,331 people to safe areas, and dug 6,537 survivors out of quake ruins.

This devastating catastrophe has affected people around the world, with a desire to do all that can be done to help and assist the Chinese people to rebuild from this great disaster. In order to express our feelings to the affected people, the worldwide Tiens Group initiated a series of activities to support the victims of this disaster and help them reconstruct their homes and their lives.

TIENS NORTH AMERICA immediately responded by inviting and encouraging its employees and independent consultants to make personal donations to the relief charity of their choice, such as the Red Cross and World Vision. These donations went directly to earthquake relief.

On Tuesday, May 27, members of the TIENS NORTH AMERICA office in Toronto Canada presented a cheque for $3,000 on behalf of all TIENS NORTH AMERICA employees and Independent Consultants in the USA and Canada to Mr. Huo Mingwu, Consul at the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto, with our heartfelt condolences and concern for the victims and survivors of this tragedy. This donation was graciously accepted and acknowledged with a letter of thanks from the Chinese Government.

We urge all people and communities everywhere to join us in expressing our profound sorrow for the Chinese people and to assist in every possible way to alleviate their suffering and renew their spirits.
